Wild Boar Hunting Experience
Join licensed hunter Hamachan on a wild boar hunt. Trap patrol, tracking, and wild game BBQ. A once-in-a-lifetime experience. November to February only.
Tour Highlights
Ishigaki Island is home to the Ryukyu wild boar, and hunting takes place every season to protect crops. Hamachan is a licensed hunter who handles everything from setting traps to dispatching and butchering single-handedly. On this experience, you accompany him from a safe distance and observe the hunt firsthand.
It starts early in the morning, heading into the mountains to check traps. Reading animal tracks, understanding trap mechanics, staying safe on mountain trails — a world you'd never encounter in daily life unfolds before you. Hamachan's stories about hunting history and coexistence with nature offer profound insights even for adults.
After the hunt, it's wild game BBQ time. Ishigaki's wild boar has sweet fat and minimal gaminess. Hamachan grills the meat over charcoal with care — a rustic feast you'll never find in a restaurant. A day to feel the meaning of receiving life through all five senses.
